In light turnout Tuesday April 7, Mount Pleasant residents elected Karen Albeck, Sonny Havn, and Ingrid Tiegel as Village Trustees, and Juliet Edmands as Clerk/Treasurer. Albeck ascends to the board after her campaign highlighted increases in Mount Pleasant taxes, fees and debt over the last two years.

According to official vote totals, Albeck edged out long-time incumbent Sonny Havn as the top vote getter. Albeck tallied 1,906 votes to Havn's 1,903. Ingrid Tiegel was third with a total of 1,626 votes. The voters' choices kept incumbent Trustees Havn and Tiegel, while giving the seat vacated by Jim Chaplin to Albeck.

Trustee candidates Robin Garard (1,565 votes), Robert Strausser (1,178 votes) and Matthew Stehling (874 votes) did not gain seats on the board.

In the Clerk/Treasurer contest, incumbent Juliet Edmands outpolled challenger Kim Forsman 2,068 votes to 1,313 to maintain her current position at the Village. Village President Carolyn Milkie, who ran unopposed, was re-elected with 2,530 votes.

Footnote: We originally listed the finishing order in the trustee race as Havn, Albeck, then Tiegel based on unofficial vote totals obtained from the County Clerk on election night. We revised the article on Saturday April 11, 2009 to reflect the official results and recognize Karen Albeck as the top candidate with 1,906 votes.
