$4.2 Million Debt Issue to Fund '09 Projects

At its January 12 meeting, the village board confirmed the issue of another $4.2 million in municipal bonds, bringing Mount Pleasant's general debt level to about $26.5 million. The borrowing includes $2.05 million for a new fire station, $1.3 million for roads, and $900,000 for other capital projects.  The vote was 5-1, with Trustee Harry Manning providing the dissenting vote.

Razor Sharp to get $135,000 boost for water park

The Mount Pleasant village board voted 6-0 Monday to approve guidelines for Tax Reinvestment Programs (TRIP), a type of tax holdback program similar to tax increment financing (TIF).  The new guidelines pave the way for incentives above and beyond TIF to be provided to commercial developers on a per-project basis anywhere in the village. With new guidelines in hand, the board is likely to approve next month an agreement to provide $135,000 in aid to Razor Sharp (ARZA LLC) for the expansion of its facility on the Highway 20 North Frontage Road.

Village to Discuss Possible Lift from Feds

The Village of Mount Pleasant may be in line to get help from Uncle Sam as part of a nationwide economic stimulus package that is expected to be enacted by the federal government this year. At the January 8 Public Works Committee meeting, village staff presented the committee with a list of public projects for which Mount Pleasant might apply for a federal grant.

Choices for Village Trustee, Clerk/Treasurer

But Not for Village President

For the second straight year, Mount Pleasant residents will have choices for who will represent them as trustees in the village government. A total of six candidates will be competing for three trustee seats in the April 7, 2009 election. The Clerk/Treasurer job will also be contested this year, with two candidates vying for that position. For the second straight time, Village President Carolyn Milkie will continue her job as President uncontested.
