Mount Pleasant may have another big storm water engineering project in its future to go along with its highly-acclaimed Pike River restoration - a regional storm water system that would dramatically change the shape of Mount Pleasant's west end, near I-94. In a presentation to the Storm Water Drainage Commission February 12, CDA Director Jim Henke and engineering firm Crispell-Snyder outlined their ideas for a regional storm water system that would include re-routing Hoods Creek and creating an expanded wetland area near what is now the Mount Pleasant compost site.

Committee Approves Free Ambulance Equipment for Sturtevant

At their February 11 meeting, Mount Pleasant's Finance, Legal and License Committee approved a deal that will provide new equipment for the newly consolidated South Shore Fire/EMS Department at essentially no cost to Sturtevant. The committee voted 2-1 to let Mount Pleasant taxpayers pick up the tab for four new power-assisted ambulance stretchers at a total cost of just over $39,000.

Contract approved despite misstatements

At the January 26 board meeting, the village agreed to give $135,000 in tax incentives to Razor Sharp (ARZA LLC) to bolster its 43,500 square foot facility expansion in Mount Pleasant.  The agreement is the first of its kind under the village's new Tax Reinvestment Program (TRIP) guidelines.

Cowardly Clucks? You Make the Call!

The Mount Pleasant village board took some heat from local media and bloggers this past week after approving the village's new mandatory carding ordinance. WTMJ Radio's Jeff Wagner called the board 'clucks', 'morons' and 'cowardly' for requiring grocery and convenience stores (but not bars and restaurants) to check the ID of every customer purchasing alcoholic beverages. The board vote was 6-1 in favor of mandatory carding, with the lone dissenting vote coming from trustee Harry Manning.

Another Stab at Selling Village Hall

Ball diamond on the bubble; Ad Hoc Committee to be revived

This ball diamond will be sold for development when the village hall is sold.In closed session January 26, the village board approved another attempt at selling the village hall and fire department property on the corner of state highways 11 and 31. This time, the property to be marketed consists of 11.26 acres, and the asking price is $7.5 million. The board's action clarifies exactly which parts of the village's land will be sold off to facilitate the move to the new village campus on 90th street.
