Village hall well represented among meeting attendees

They called themselves "Informed Mount Pleasant Advocates for Community Trust". They convinced over a dozen business people to contribute hundreds of dollars apiece to an all-out campaign to maintain the status quo at village hall.  They were more than a little sloppy in trying to run a political action committee legally.  But who exactly are these people?

Outside Money Bankrolled I.M.P.A.C.T.

Campaign finance statements available at Village Hall show that individuals living outside of Mount Pleasant provided over half the funding for I.M.P.A.C.T., a political action committee currently under investigation for alleged campaign finance violations in the 2008 Mount Pleasant elections. The biggest spenders were development interests (realtors, developers, and builders), who all stand to gain from the Village of Mount Pleasant's public support programs for development in the village.

Board Says Sturtevant Must Pay

No free ambulance stretchers after all

At their Monday night meeting February 23, the village board voted 4-2 to make the village of Sturtevant pay about $7,000 towards a $39,100 purchase of power assisted ambulance stretchers for the consolidated South Shore Fire Department.  The board action overturns earlier recommendations from the Fire/EMS Oversight Board and the Finance Committee that called for Sturtevant to pay only $1,700 for the purchase, or about 4% of the total.

Did I.M.P.A.C.T. cross the line in 2008?

With the April 7 local elections fast approaching, there is still one lingering issue with last year's Mount Pleasant trustee elections: District Attorney Michael Nieskes is still investigating allegations that a political action committee known as I.M.P.A.C.T. violated campaign finance laws during the Spring 2008 election season.

Village Will Ask 'Clowns' for Road Money

The Public Works Committee seemed miffed at how few projects are eligible, but that didn't stop them from applying for economic stimulus money to fund two potential local road projects in 2009 and 2010. The two projects identified were to repave Lathrop Avenue between Taylor Avenue and Highway KR in 2009, and to rebuild Oakes Road from Highway 20 to 16th street near Case High School in 2010.  The committee passed a motion to move ahead with the applications, which must be submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation by Wednesday, February 18 in order to be eligible for approval.
