Mount Pleasant’s Village Board will be setting budget targets for construction of the new village hall/police department on September 29, 2009 at 7:00PM at Village Hall. At the meeting, architects Bray and Associates will present alternatives with different costs, and the Board will then set a spending target for the architects. The spending target will determine how big the new village hall and police station will be.
At this meeting, the Board decides whether to over-build village hall or not. |

Residents getting new assessment letters nowThis past week, Mount Pleasant homeowners started receiving letters from the tax assessor telling them their new assessed property values. Along with the mailings, the village announced that the annual open book period will begin July 14, and that the Board of Review will convene August 10 to begin hearing assessment appeals. |

The Racine Public Library Board of Trustees has announced the purchase of approximately 35 acres of land located at Spring Street and Newman Road. The land will be used for the future construction of a second library facility. The $1,199,056.99 price of the land was paid for with library trust funds. |

But will residents "have it their way"?The Village of Mount Pleasant is poised to receive $435,000 in federal stimulus funding to apply to repaving Lathrop Avenue between Taylor Avenue and Highway KR in 2010. The $870,000 reconstruction project will replace earlier plans to resurface Lathrop Avenue this year at a cost of $300,000. At its May 28 meeting, the Public Works Committee gave the go-ahead for $60,000 in engineering work needed to keep the project moving ahead. |

Now in its fifth month of operation, the South Shore Fire Department is functioning well with only minor concerns about operational costs. So said an Operational Status Report dated April 27, 2009 which Battalion Chief Jon Keiser presented to the Fire/EMS Oversight Board at their May meeting.
The combined fire and emergency medical services (EMS) department formed January 1 when the Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant fire departments merged. |
