Challengers Show Strength in Trustee Primary

Mount Pleasant voters narrowed the field of candidates for Village Trustee to six in Tuesday's primary, and showed strong support for challengers to the current Village Board. In brisk turnout due to the presidential primary, challengers Harry Manning and Ruth Gedwardt were the top two vote getters, with 18-year board fixture Ken Flones tallying a distant third.

WRJN to Air Candidate Forum Feb 13

What: Mount Pleasant Trustee candidate forum on WRJN Radio (AM 1400).

Who: All 8 candidates for Mount Pleasant trustee, moderated by WRJN News Director Tom Karkow.

When: Approximately 6:00 PM , February 13th.

WRJN will be covering Barack Obama's speech at Memorial Hall starting at approximately 5:15 PM. The Mount Pleasant Candidate Forum will follow immediately afterwards, but may be delayed somewhat from its original 6PM start time.

Village Launches Election Newsletter

As of February 9, Mount Pleasant residents are in the process of receiving another special edition of the village newsletter, this one timed to arrive just ahead of the February 19th primary election. The edition contains the full text of the Village President's recent State of the Village Address, which includes several comments in support of the incumbent village board.

MP Police Chief Retires at 58

The Racine Journal-Times reported February 2, 2008 that Mount Pleasant Police Chief Jim Majdoch is retiring after 27 years of service on the force.

Milkie Gives State of Village Address

At the village board meeting January 28, Village President Carolyn Milkie gave a first-ever State of the Village Address. Her speech provided information on several scantly-discussed topics such as the 5-year expansion of the police department, a feasibility study for possible boundary realignment with the city of Racine, and the launch of the new village website.

Sturtevant Will Discuss Fire Consolidation Tuesday 1/22

The Sturtevant Village Board is holding a public meeting at 6PM Tuesday to discuss a proposal to consolidate fire and EMS services with Mount Pleasant. The meeting was announced on the Racine Journal-Times website today, and will include a discussion of the pros and cons of consolidation. The notice did not say whether the Mount Pleasant village board would be in attendance.
